Now every day can be Y2K.

Oooh boy I’m excited. There’s a lot to talk about.
Here are the high points:
We have a new pedal called Lossy.
It’s available now and ready to ship.
There’s also a cool shirt.
Goodhertz are the best.
Why so excited?
This is a dream project for me: Lossy is a pedal version of my fav plugin.
You’re probably excited too if you’ve used it before, it’s a very special thing.
It takes the same techniques used to smoosh sound into an mp3 or a video call and lets you control them in real-time – to use their mistakes and artifacts as musical textures.
Why have we done this?
There’s really nothing else like Lossy. It’s the time period it evokes, but it’s also the spectral processing it uses to do it and everything that comes with that. It’s one of one.
Goodhertz have been getting requests to make a pedal version for years, and even started development on one before COVID messed everything up. So we decided to work on it together.
Putting Lossy into a pedal was not copy-paste, it was actually much closer to starting from scratch (I’m glad we didn’t know that when we started out). But that let us dig in and see how much further we could take it.
Is it different from the plugin?
Yep.
Goodhertz are real smarty-pantses and they came in with a plan to make Lossy as performance-friendly as possible. It’s got a few new modes, a few new features, more than a few refinements, and a spectral freeze ability that is really a whole effect in itself.
I wasn’t expecting it to surprise me the way it did.
My favorite day on this project was when the engineer behind all this, Devin Kerr, said he preferred the pedal to the original.
In summary.
There’s something about the textures this pedal makes - the sounds of the late 90’s to early 00’s - that hit differently. It’s almost too familiar to be nostalgic, it still feels like yesterday if anything. I think that’s the interesting part, it’s both old and fresh, somehow. It hadn’t even crossed my mind to explore those sounds before Lossy.
So that’s why I’m excited.
I’m a fan, and I’m happy to be able to bring Lossy to new people and new places.
Details
We’ve got plenty of pedals in stock and we’ll be aiming to ship within 3 days of your order being placed. Whatever it says on the product page when you order will be accurate.
ALSO, buying the Lossy pedal gets you 50% off the plugin – a Lossy for away, and a Lossy for home.
I really want to thank Goodhertz for making this happen. They are having a pretty nice anniversary sale right now if you’re curious to check out more of their work. I think of them as a superteam – a small, thoughtful, thorough group of people making some truly exceptional stuff.
I hope you find Lossy interesting, it is a wild time.
